Elderly

Reduced mobility, stiffness, depression, and a general feeling of ill health are just some of the problems you may experience as your body gets older. These problems may be the direct results of very specific physical conditions such as arthritis, the result of falls and accidents, poor circulation, or simply the results of general wear and tear. Many older people find that chiropractic treatment helps them to maintain their mobility as well as retain their health and well being. The gentle nature of McTimoney Chiropractic makes it particularly suitable at this time in life, even if you suffer from osteoporosis.

The range of conditions that can be helped is extensive and includes back, neck and joint pain, headaches and migraines, as well as helping to alleviate the pain and problems caused by the following :

  • Arthritis - osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis,

  • Poor Circulation, particularly in the hands, legs and feet,

  • The after effects of operations, falls, bumps, and accidents,

  • Dental and denture associated pain,

  • General symptoms of declining health, including poor mobility.

Although chiropractic cannot reverse the effects of arthritis or degenerative diseases, by keeping the body aligned, treatment can help to reduce further damage.

A full case history will be taken regarding your general health background as well as details of your symptoms. Your chiropractor will then thoroughly examine all the joints in your body, literally from head to toe, using hands only, and make the appropriate adjustments where necessary.

Your McTimoney Chiropractor will, wherever possible, work in conjunction with your GP, and a letter is normally sent informing them of your treatment. If your Chiropractor discovers or suspects a problem that requires medical investigation they will in turn refer you to your GP.

The number of sessions needed varies considerably depending on :

  • Your age - You generally heal more slowly as you get older,

  • The nature of the problem - A simple backache will often clear more quickly than a sciatic problem,

  • How long you have had the problem - Generally, yesterday’s injury will resolve faster than one of 20 years’ standing.

Most patients need between two and ten sessions, initially at weekly intervals then gradually more widely spaced out, by which time a noticeable change should have occurred, though treatment can continue for longer. Once the acute problem has been resolved, regular check ups are recommended to keep your spine and other joints functioning well.

Chiropractic is also a preventative therapy and when used in this way greatly
